I want to start my own business but…

The key word is ‘but’. It is what keeps you from living your dream.

‘But’ leads to an excuse and it’s hard to overcome excuses until you realize they are fake reasons. Simply put, an excuse is the skin of a reason stuffed with a lie.

Steven Pressfield just released a book that talks about that in a different way but it is very effective. The book is “Put your ass where your heart wants to be” and it talks about commitment, Resistance (it’s capitalized for a reason), procrastination, self-doubt, fear, distraction, and perfectionism.

Getting the book could be just what you need to take the first step.

Now don’t get confused about the first step. It is not hoping or wanting. Wishing won’t get it either.

The first step is “deciding” and that is the hardest. Then you have to remember what you decided and that keeps you going when it gets hard. I’ve decided on a lot of things in my life. To get married, to get divorced, to get married again (42 years ago), to go to California from Indiana, to go back to Indiana, to go to Georgia (28 years ago), to start my own business (21 years ago), lose 60 pounds, and the list goes on.

I’ve been in real estate and with Keller Williams for 19 years. That was a good decision. There are lots of other companies and while I could have joined them or even started my own, once I became a broker, I found the most value at KW.

KW is the only place I’ve seen that teaches you to make more money instead of just saving it. There are lots of 100% commission places, selling you on reduced costs while giving you little in support and training. They can’t hold up to examination if you are serious about this business and by serious I mean selling about 10 houses or more a year.

If you want to know more about KW check out my website. If all you want is more info you can get it there. If you are in school to get your real estate license we have a different path for you, and if you are already licensed you can sign up for a discovery call to find out more.

So I have one question for you.

Have you decided?
