KW or EXP

This has been a topic amongst agents, CEOs, and VPs for quite a while. It takes me back to a time when I was contemplating a move. Let me tell you the story.

Several years ago I was being recruited. A broker I knew had been “courting” me for a while. He had been with KW and left to start his own firm. Let’s call him Jim to protect the innocent. Jim had taken me to lunch a couple of times and was about to make me an offer and I was about to accept but then an interesting thing happened.

After a morning meeting at a local diner, I got to talking with the owner. I gave him my card and after looking at it for a second he asked if I knew Jim. I smiled and said I did but I was a bit puzzled by the question and asked if Jim’s name was on my card. The owner laughed and said, “No, but I know him from his marketing with KW”. I explained Jim was no longer with KW and shortly after that the lunch crowd was beginning to come in and we had to end our conversation.

I thought a long time about that conversation and as a result, I didn’t change companies. I have been with KW for 19 years and likely will stay. I got to thinking about my clients and my database and I realized when they saw a KW sign they thought of me. There are a lot more KW signs even back then than there were signs for Jim’s firm and that was valuable even if it could not be measured.

All this moving around seems to me, is an excuse to change things when it really isn’t the problem. If we will focus on lead generation and take care of our clients, it won’t matter to our clients. What matters is the ability to grow, to learn how to make more money instead of trying to save a few bucks, and the long-term growth of the company.

After all, no matter where you go, there you are.

KW is the only privately held, agent-centered, interdependent real estate company driven by purpose and community, led by the Steve Jobs of the real estate industry, that is building proprietary technology to protect and elevate the role of the true real estate professional in an industry that is now trying to turn them into low paid functionaries.

Choose wisely and stick with it. For me, it’s KW.
