What game are you playing?

We all play games.

In marriage the guy plays a game where the rules are “you can’t win, you can’t break even and you must play”. I not kidding but I am smiling. I’ve been married a long time and those are the rules but I love it. It’s one of the places where you must give more than you take. It’s a long game. Seth called it an infinite game in this podcast. Simon Sinek is another speaker who has a lot to say about this. He’s on that page too. Check it out.

Infinite vs finite. The rules are different and so are the rewards. Infinite games are things like marriage, building a platform, working by referral, creating a business where competition matters less and service matters more. Trust is built in the infinite game.

Finite games are monopoly, baseball, cold calling, expired listings, online lead purchase. You get to spend all the effort and certainly there are rewards but when you stop working, so do they.

The objective of an infinite game is to keep the game going. I want to keep the game going in working by referral. More people to help, more homes to sell, more agents to mentor. We just keep going. We compete against ourselves and not each other. We want to get better.

I’m digging into to this deeper and I’ll have more to share but I wanted to get this out of my head and this blog is where I do that.

I’d love to read your comments and thoughts as  you pursue this too. There is a space below for that or you can email me.
